Rafal Teurer and Artem Smirnov enter into the second qualifying round – Szczecin Challenger 2012
Rafal Teurer stuns Taro Daniel 6-3, 6-2
World number 339, Taro Daniel, received a straight sets shocker at the hand of the Polish professional, Rafal Teurer, in the initial qualifying round of the Szczecin Challenger 2012, in Poland. Teurer jolted
down his 6-3, 6-2 triumph on the eve of Saturday.
The right-hander Pole commences the contest with his superior game plan and secured the initial lead by breaking his rival’s serve in the fourth game. However, the Japanese participant struggled hard to dominate
and also broke Teurer’s serve in the seventh game, marking a 4-3 score line. The Polish challenger nudged forward and wrapped up the set with a 6-3 lead.
In the final set the 19-year-old Japanese held his initial serve but seemed powerless in front of his rival. Teurer manifested his high paced comeback and busted his rival’s serve towards the end to completely
shatter his confidence. Eventually, he emerged to the final spot to mark his 6-2 win.
Although Daniel manifested 81 percent initial serve precision, he could only capitalize 23 of 46 first serve points. On the other hand, 25-year-old Teurer secured 70 percent initial serve, bagging away 25 of
32 points in the match.
Artem Smirnov disposes Mikolaj Szmyrgala 6-2, 6-3
Ukrainian challenger, Artem Smirnov defeated the Polish, Mikolaj Szmyrgala in straight set in the initial qualifying round of the Szczecin Challenger. Smirnov gleefully jolted down his 6-2, 6-3 victory on the
eve of Saturday.
The 24-year-old, Smirnov, broke his rival’s serve in the beginning of the opener and clinched the initial three games to mark a 3-love lead. Though he local struggled hard to dominate and busted Smirnov’s serve
in the fifth game. He was never able to take over the score line and ultimately, the Ukrainian professional secured the front by 6-2 score.
The 27-year-old, Polish displayed a relatively poor game plan as he was unable to sustain his initial serve in the series. However, he did try his best to level the score line to 3-all towards the end but this
aroused an alarm for the Ukrainian right-hander and he suddenly advanced to terminate the match with a 6-3 win.
Both players had equal initial serve accuracy of 71 percent but Smirnov converted 26 of 42 first and nine of 17 second deliveries. In the same way, Szmyrgala could only pocket away 15 of 36 first and four of
15 second deliver points in the match.
