Reviewing the final few hands of the night, Bertoluci was engaged in a three-way battle while sitting in a middle position. The flop came down with a nine of hearts, eight of spades and four of hearts, with 150,000 chips already
in the pot. Bertoluci was having a queen and jack of hearts up his sleeves and Paolo Ruscalla holding an ace of hearts and a ten of spades. The other unnamed player was having a nine and eight of diamonds in his hand and with a ten of spades on the turn left
Bertoluci the hot favourite with a straight.
An ace of spades on the river gave two pairs to Ruscalla but Bertoluci’s straight prevailed over it award the big pot to him. By the end of that hand, Roberto Romanello was dominating the tournament with his fine form and regular
verbal tirades were heard from him throughout the night.
“I am the table captain…there is only room for one boss on this table,” were the two most consistently uttered sentences from the WPT Champions Club member, Romanello. However, he finished the night at the sixth spot, with 133,200
chips in his bag and will be taking off the Day 2 eyeing to extend his lead by the finish.
Last year’s WPT Venice champion, Alessio Isaia, wasn’t so lucky on Day 1b, finishing off the night with 68,700 chips in the bag. Isaia looked very determined to register back-to-back championship victories at Venice and will be
straining hard to break into the top-10 at Day 2 of the tournament.
