Ragna Ingolfsdottir ousts Simone Prutsch in the round-of-16 at Austrian International Challenge 2012
Iceland’s Ragna Ingolfsdottir delivered a stunning performance in the Women’s Singles round-of-16 when she defeated Austria’s Simone Prutsch and reserved her place in the quarter-final of Austrian International Challenge 2012 in Austria, on Friday, February 24.
Ingolfsdottir destroyed local hopes by beating Prutsch in a thrilling contest that took three games of attacking badminton from both sides.
Prutsch played well in the opening two games but could not maintain her focus in the final set and lost the match in 49 minutes.
In the first game, Ingolfsdottir started her campaign in a quivering manner as she could not dominate the pace of the rallies. However, she managed to remain closely behind her opponent on the score board.
On the other hand, Prutsch was impressive in her shot selection and she executed her strokes in the right areas. She managed a two-point lead of 11-9 until the break.
After the interval, both ladies remained close by playing fast and aggressive badminton. Ingolfsdottir was relying on her drives while her local opponent was executing powerful smashes.
The score reached at the dramatic stage of 24-24 when Ingolfsdottir executed a few wrong strokes and lost the set with a 24-26 score on the board.
In the second game, both shuttlers again continued their aggressive play in the game and remained equal on the score board in until the end of opening half.
After the break, the contest progressed in the similar thrilling manner and the score reached at 17-17.
At this crucial stage, Ingolfsdottir showed her class as she became quicker and scored the ending points to take the game with a margin of 21-18.
It was a different story in the final set when Ingolfsdottir played flawless badminton and dictated the pace of rallies in all areas of the court. She played with precision and took a remarkable lead of 11-5 on the score board.
After the break, Ingolfsdottir remained on track and did not show mercy to her opponent throughout the concluding phase and won the set with an impressive margin of 21-9.
Ingolfsdottir emerged as the winner of this Women’s Singles round-of-16 clash with a 24-26, 21-18 and 21-9 score on the board.
