Raheem Morris harbours no ill-will towards Tampa Bay Buccaneers - NFL News
Raheem Morris had been fired by Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going 4-12 in the 2011-12 regular season, with the franchise losing all of its last ten games but the new Washington Redskins defensive backs coach would not do anything different if he got another
opportunity.
Morris in a radio interview said that he would not have done anything different and that he had no regrets about how the previous season panned out for him.
"I wouldn't change anything about it. You put yourself in a position of power, you put yourself out there, and you want to go out there and want to be great, and we had the opportunity and almost pulled it off. I take no ill will, no negative feelings toward
those guys, toward the Bucs' organization at all. ...”
Morris was promoted from the role of defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to head coach in 2009 and ended his first season with a 3-13 record.
In his second season Morris led the Bucs to a 10-6 finish and it seemed that the Buccaneers had finally found a winning formula.
That good form continued for the first six weeks in 2011-12, Tampa Bay went 4-2 but dipping form and locker room battles with players saw the Bucs lose their last ten games of the season and end up with a 4-12 record.
Tampa Bay fired Morris from the head coach role and only recently signed ex-Rutgers coach Greg Schiano to replace him.
The young coach meanwhile signed up with Washington Redskins to become their defensive backs coach under Mike Shanahan.
Morris though harbours no ill-will for Tampa Bay and says that he fully accepts responsibility in the manner the season ended.
“Everybody wants to win a championship, everybody wants to be their best self — obviously that didn’t happen. Whatever happened during the season you put directly on me. . . . I wasn’t able to get it done this year and I’ll take all the heat for that.”
Morris had offers from the Minnesota Vikings in addition to those from other franchises but chose Washington since they were the first to offer him a job and he wants to repay their belief in his abilities.
