Former Indian captain, Rahul Dravid, has called for a separate window for the Indian Premier League which will considerably reduce the club vs country row, and will further help Test cricket flourish, owing to the involvement of big names.
"The reality is the IPL is an important tournament and people do want to play it," Dravid said on BBC's Test Match Special at Lord's.
Currently in London for the MCC’s cricket committee meetings, Dravid gave his take on the whole http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils.
His latest stint was a highly successful one but ended mid-way through the competition owing to his obligations with the national team. The 32-year-old had already claimed that England were jealous of the IPL and a resolution needs to be found in order to promote the event back home.
KP then went one step further and held talks with ECB over a possibility of picking and choosing his own series and playing a full IPL season. That did not go down well with the English hierarchy and ultimately, the player retired from 50-overs cricket before knowing that by doing so, he had also jeopardized his T20 international career, taking into account the terms of his contract with the ECB.
With tensions heightened, KP was then left-out of the final Test again http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 despite the player declaring his intentions to represent the Poms across all formats. For Dravid, the only way out is a little give and take from all concerned parties to ensure that top players play Test cricket because according to him the game suffers the most from such stand-offs.
"And we are probably coming to a stage where maybe a time will come [when] there will need to be give-and-take - whether it is finding a window, or, whether making the tournament a little shorter.
"There are some positives with the IPL and you have to understand that if the top players in the world want to play it and people want to watch then there is got to be some thing good about it is as well," Dravid said.
