Indian top-order batsman, Rahul Dravid, has backed compatriot Sachin Tendulkar’s idea of revamping the One Day International format, which will make it more competitive in terms of challenging the riches of Twenty20 cricket.
The Master Blaster, in a formal request, wrote to ICC Chief executive http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719, proposing four alternate innings of 25 overs , which will give the competing sides no added advantage from external factors such as dew or bad weather.
He also put forward the suggestion for a 12 over bowler-limit rather than the current limit of 10. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607 believes that the changes will ensure that the influence of T20 cricket will be curtailed in a way which will put it on the same grounds as the 50-over
game.
However, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Chief Executive turned down the Little Master’s proposal, saying that under the current scenario, the 50-over format will remain the same.
Dravid, while on a public event, when quizzed about the rejection of the split innings idea, believed that it was interesting to note the grounds on which the ICC turned down the proposal.
"I think the split-innings formula was already trialed in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. It will be interesting to know the reasons why the ICC has turned it down. Sachin must have given it a thought before mooting the idea," Dravid said.
It is the success of the World Cup 2011, which has somewhat allowed the ICC to keep firm on their stance of not making wholesale changes to the current format, with Lorgat himself satisfied with the state of the 50-over game today.
… “The success of the tournament showed that the 50-over format was sound in health and there was no need for dramatic changes," Lorgat said in an interview earlier.
With both Sachin and Dravid having amassed 28000 ODI runs collectively, to call on a change in the current set-up shows their passion for the game. However, it remains to been seen whether ICC changes its stance in the future, but for now the 50-over game
will go ahead as planned.
