Rahul Dravid, one of India’s alpha players, is mournful over his team’s incompetency against the home side in the ongoing four-match Test series being held in Australia.
Dravid, a.k.a. as the ‘Wall’, said that he was hoping for his team to show an improved performance after an awful crush-down on the tour of England last year. Currently, India is on the decline in the ongoing series with no wins in hand, while the home team
bears two wins. Day 3 of the ongoing 2nd Test ended with India at 114 for 2 and Australia at a gigantic total of 659 for 4 after their first innings. India, quite disappointingly, was able to score just 191 on the opening day in their first session. As of
now, India needs to add 354 more runs to their share in order to fetch another Aussie innings.
The right-handed batsman known for his defensive play added that his team has let him and their fans down with such a dreadful execution of play. He further said that he was hopeful of an auspicious Australian series for India, however now it seems like
what happened in England is being repeated.
Here’s what Dravid had to say:
"Obviously we didn't play well in England. We thought we would play much better here. Things haven't worked here, too, but still time to go. It is disappointing and we are not happy about it."
India is known for its strong batting capabilities, and so the Indore great blames the batting line-up for not standing against the odds this time. He further added that in order to win a Test match, a team needs to stay at the crease for at least 80 to
100 overs; something that his side has not been doing. He termed his current side as a fumble team that does not have a reliable batting line-up, at least for now.
"The key for us is to keep them on the field for a long period of time. If we can keep their bowlers and fielders on the field for more than 100 overs, then we can put them under pressure and see some of their bowlers wilt", said Dravid.
