Rahul Dravid wants Ricky Ponting to start purple patch after India tour – Cricket News Update
India’s legendary opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, anticipating that the veteran gun will start his success streak after the upcoming India-Australia Test series, starting from December
26.
In the charged atmosphere where everyone is censuring Ponting and demanding his ouster from the squad, Dravid has come up to sympathise with him as he compares Punter’s lean patch to his own.
The Wall opines that every cricketer passes through some lean patches during his professional career and Ponting is also having one at the moment, claiming that he will soon be able to regain his lost batting form.
In Rahul’s view, Ponting is still the greatest batsman in Australia and every team is wary while playing against him.
Talking to the media today, the Indian batting master said, “I have been through all that myself, and can easily relate to him. I was watching those Test matches (in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757) and was in some way hoping that he would score runs. I hoped he would score
runs in this next Test match and then take a bit of a break against us.”
He further told, “I think he is still a great player. He showed in the couple of Test matches that he played against us in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 that he is still -- I'd say he is still -- the best Australian batsman. And when you read his name on the sheet he is still one
of the most feared.”
Ponting has been out-of-form since the last couple of years, scoring no century during this period and losing his wicket below two figures many times. Failing to defend the title in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011, the 36-year-old had to relinquish captaincy. The top-order
batter has 157 Test, 370 ODI and 17 T20Is to his name.
Dravid, who has left for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 early along with six other players in order to get acclimatised with overseas playing conditions, avers that Ponting should not be criticised, but given time to retire gracefully and honourably.
