Raiders’ Coach Hue Jackson says Darren McFadden does not need surgery – NFL News
The Oakland Raiders want Darren McFadden back and want him back real fast. In McFadden’s absence the Raiders’ position in AFC West is questionable and will not surely help Oakland’s vying for the top place.
McFadden fell prey to a right leg foot sprain while playing against the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 23 causing him to miss games since week 7. With the departure of McFadden, the rushing offence of the Raiders fell from the second place to the fourth. Though Michael Bush has done quite a good job as a replacement, yet the absence of McFadden cannot be accounted for as the Raiders desperately wish for his comeback.
However, this Monday’s press conference by Oakland Coach Hue Jackson may have members of the team optimistic about an early return by McFadden.
"That much I do know. Darren McFadden does not need surgery," Jackson said.
In spite of this statement, the nature of McFadden’s injury still remains vague though Jackson was adamant that the injury was a Lisfranc sprain.
“I mean, that’s what we said – it’s a sprained foot, Lisfranc, whatever you want to call it,” Jackson said. “Basically the same thing.”
News of a Lisfranc sprain had created frenzy with thoughts rushing towards Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub who had his season ended following a Lisfranc injury.
"I know everybody then goes to Matt Schaub and understands when you say Lisfranc, 'Oh OK, well that's season-ending,' and maybe that's the situation here," Jackson said. "Well, we'll see. I don't know that for sure."
Jackson sure looked confident that they would have McFadden back into the team soon and in this same season. However he could not come up with a timeframe for his return.
The Raiders look forward to a game against the Detroit Lions this Sunday. They are already faced with two straight defeats and would be surely looking to avoid a third one. McFadden could have done just that but now the Oakland will have to contend without him.
Meanwhile Jackson said nothing about the injuries to wide outs Jacoby Ford and Denarius Moore. Both of these players have sustained foot injuries and have missed out games recently.
