  1. take them to a scrap metal dealer and sell them .

  2. Heather ,THEY ARE NOT ILLEGAL!!!!!!  Scrap steel is $140 a ton. But I'm betting at a flea Mkt or yard sale people would pay$2-$5 a piece for a paper weight

  3. My understanding about railroad items and scrapers, is that you have to have something from the railroad saying that they gave you permission to have them.  If not then they will not let you scrap them.  Just my understanding.  Whether it is true or not, I don't know.  Might take them to a scrapper and find out what they have to have.

  4. Spikes are not illegal to possess.

But, since your pop had so many, I'd be interested to know exactly what kind of spikes they are.  Seems to me if dad had that many of them, he was keepin' 'em for a reason.

I don't know where you're at, but if near some historical piece of railroad, or if these are very old spikes in good condition, then I don't think I'd be in too much of a hurry gettin' to a scrap dealer.

It may take some doing, but I'd take the time to find someone knowledgeable to check them out.  To a collector, they may be of value.

    One man's trash............

  5. Paint them gold, and sell em as paperweights.

  6. take them too a scrap metal yard.  You'll probably get around 50 cents a pound for them.

  7. What's not legal to have about them? They discard used ones all the time. That's a load of BS.

  8. I have never heard of them being illegal to own but if htey are I will probably see you in jail LOL. Take them to any re-cycler, or if there is a RR museum nearby they might want them. Not a lot of use for them are there??

  9. They are not illegal to own, other than people that steal them out of the tracks. Railroad museums sell them engraved all the time as souvenirs.  The best thing you can do is donate them to a local railroad museum. Most are non profit corporations and could use the donation and possibly give you a receipt for a tax credit.

  10. Depending on what kind of shape they're in, you might want to sell them back to the railroad company that ur dad got them from. Or take them to a scrap dealer, maybe you can get a good price for them there.

  11. Take them to a scrap recycler.Thy are not illegal to have.

  12. I never heard of them being liiegal to have some peple colect them disposal scrap yard junk yard  they may pay for tmen
