Rain abandons the fourth stage of the Tour De Korea 2012
Organisers of the Tour of Korea had to take the tough decision of cancelling the fourth stage of the race because of the bad racing conditions.
"Due to adverse weather conditions, Tour de Korea race officials made the difficult decision to cancel today’s fourth stage from Yeosu to Geochang shortly after the race left the neutralized zone".
"Very heavy rainfall, surface flooding and high wind gusts impeded course visibility and caused potentially destabilising conditions in a bunch-riding situation”.
“The possibility of riders taking unnecessary risks to complete the stage meant no other decision, other than cancellation, was possible", reads a team’s statement.
Tour of Korea started back in 2001 with the Korean cyclist Chun Dae-Hong as the first ever winner of the race. Choi Ki Ho of Hong Kong succeeded during the most recent edition of the race.
The event is scheduled between April 22-29 and it has already reached the half way mark.
Mauro Abel Richeze of Team Nippo succeeded during the opening stage of the race. He crossed the finish line in a fastest time of 1 hour, 11 minute and 20 seconds.
Charles Huff of Team Jelly Belly, Seon Ho Park of Team Arbo Gebruder Weiss, Aaron Kemps of Team Champion System Pro Cycling and Alexander Serebrayakov of Team Type 1-Sanofi achieved the next four spots.
The 197.7 kilometre stage two of the race belonged to the American cyclist Alexander Candelario of Team Optum who crossed the finish line in a quickest time of 4 hours, 41 minutes and 55 seconds.
He rode brilliantly to restrict the race favourites throughout the race. David McCann of Team RTS Racing achieved the second position with Chan Jae Jang of Terengganu Cycling Team finishing third.
Chan Jae Jang of Terengganu Cycling Team wins the third stage of the race with Ken Hanson of Team Optum and Maximiliano Richeze finishing at the second and the third positions.
Chan Jae Jang, Alexander Candelario and David McCann achieved the top spot after the stage 3 classifications.
The results remained unchanged after the rain abandons the fourth stage of the race and the cyclists are now eyeing the 146.8 kilometre stage 5 of the race scheduled on April 26th, 2012.
