Rain delay means Alexi Ogando can take part in bullpen action for the Texas Rangers – MLB News
Texas Rangers hurler Alexi Ogando will be available for Game 2 of the American League Championship Series, announced Ron Washington on Sunday, October 9. The Rangers were scheduled to face the Detroit Tigers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Sunday but
rain caused a 24-hour delay. The club will now play their rivals on Monday, October 10.
The decision for the delay was conveyed to the media by Major League Baseball Commissioner, Bud Selig. Texas Manager Ron Washington talked about the delay and the team with the press in Arlington. His announcement on Ogando’s availability brought smiles
to the faces of the fans.
The regular season starter has been limited to a role in the bullpen recently and he seems to be doing well in the playoffs. The hurler pitched two innings against the Tigers on Saturday, October 8. He provided two scoreless innings to record a 3-2 win to
his name. He struck-out three hitters and allowed just one walk. Currently his post-season earned run average is just zero.
During the regular season, he was 13-8, with an earning runs average of 3.51. His inclusion in the bullpen will bolster the pitching rotation for their encounter on Monday against Detroit.
"He would have been down today," Washington said. "The fact that we're not playing today brings him back into play."
While the pitching rotation was content with the rainout decision, the club hitters were not pleased.
"We never liked to be delayed and we never liked to be cancelled," second baseman Ian Kinsler said. "But it would be a lot nicer if we could change the rain now and put it in August or June, when it was like 106 degrees 21 days in a row."
Rangers Ballpark had the worst heat streak during the summer season. It is understandable why Kinsler made remarks about the weather that way. The Rangers will be looking to put in a good performance against the Tigers in Game 2 as they try to move forward
to the coveted World Series.
