Rain delay not to affect Jaime Garcia’s start – MLB Update
Addressing to reporters soon after Game 6 of the World Series was postponed due to inclement weather on Wednesday, October 26, St. Louis Cardinals’ manager Tony La Russa reaffirmed that he will persist with Jaime Garcia when the game finally starts on Thursday,
October 27.
Major League Baseball postponed the game by a day, at least, even before rain actually came to St. Louis. Both camps had mixed reactions to the situation, but were satisfied with the decision.
Reporters were curious to know about La Russa’s plan for Game 7, but the manager played it down skilfully and maintained focus on Game 6. He asserted that winning Game 6 is of utmost importance for the team because the outcome of this game will decide if
Game 7 is even required or not.
The Rangers are currently leading 3-2 in the seven-game series and are in touching distance of winning their first ever World Series crown. The Cardinals, on the other hand, have been in a similar situation for five out of the total 17 times they have qualified
for the Fall Classic. Their conversion rate has been phenomenal, prevailing four times to win the World Series 4-3.
La Russa believes that this delay will come in handy for the Cardinals, who will have every pitcher available out of the bull-pen in a must-win game. The manager can employ the likes of Chris Carpenter and Kyle Lohse, but only if absolutely necessary. Nevertheless,
the management wants Garcia to make his start count and register his first career win in the postseason, when it matters the most.
Explaining his take on the delay, Garcia said, "I'm going to sleep good and get ready. I've worked really hard in between starts through the whole season to get to this point, and it all comes down to whoever is better."
Garcia earned support from his manager, who pointed out that pitching has been his team’s strength and that the offence has not really fired up till yet, barring one game where the Cardinals annihilated the Rangers 16-7.
La Russa hinted that he might start Carpenter in Game 7, but nothing is definite thus far.
