Rain ends match between Hampshire 2nd XI and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 2nd XI in a draw: Second Eleven Trophy
A Second Eleven Trophy game between Hampshire 2nd XI and Kent 2nd XI ended in no result, at The Rose Bowl (Nursery), Southampton in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.
The match didn’t start on schedule, as the outfield was wet and there was a slight drizzle over the filed. This kept both teams and the fans waiting for some time, but the conditions cleared and the umpires finally decided to have some play.
The playing conditions were revised, as the game was shortened to 24 overs per side from 40 overs. Although both teams would have liked a complete match, they would still have been pleased with some play at the end of the day.
Hampshire 2nd XI batted first and collected a challenging total of 163 runs for the loss of three wickets in their outing. The highest score of the innings came of the bat off opening batsman, Tim Ravenscroft, who scored 49 runs at the top of
the order.
Kent 2nd XI were not able to complete their innings, as the rain interrupted play once more. The visitors had managed just nine runs before the rain became heavier and the umpires decide to stop the play once again.
Toss was won by the home team’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johann-Gerhardus-Myburgh-c67194, who opted to bat first. There was a little concern regarding the moisture beneath the surface of the wicket, as it rained just before the start of play.
However, the pitch appeared to be good for the batsmen and Myburgh expected his side to post a decent target for the opposition.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 2nd XI’s innings was started by Ravenscroft and seasoned campaigner, Ben Howell. The pair played attacking cricket, giving a good start to their team. They didn’t have many problems, facing the new ball bowlers and smashed them to all
parts of the park.
Howell was the first man to be dismissed in the innings after collecting 52 runs for the first wicket partnership with Ravenscroft. He scored 18 runs from 16 deliveries with the help of three boundaries.
After a 31-run stand for the second wicket with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sean-Ervine-c2471, Ravenscroft was also dismissed. He played really well, but missed out on a half-century by just one run, as he got out for 49 runs.
The stylish opener was in impressive touch though, getting his runs off just 37 balls with the help of five fours and three thunderous sixes.
The home team’s skipper was unable to make a big impression, as he was sent back to the pavilion after adding 10 runs to the total.
Ervine and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Liam-Dawson-c1840 put together an unbeaten 57 run partnership for the fourth wicket, scoring 41 and 38 in their respective outings.
Jonathan Denning was superb in his spell, taking one wicket for 29 runs in eight overs for his side.
Kent 2nd XI only came out to bat eight deliveries before the match ended without a result due to heavy rain.
