Rain expected to hit Suzuka this weekend
Despite the recent heavy showers over the circuit, the teams were greeted with better weather as they arrived for this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix. However, the forecast for the upcoming race is not that welcoming as there is a possibility that the track
will be showered on Friday before the practice session with heavy winds and rain over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Suzuka circuit for the 2010 season has a significant change as fast double-right corners have been added to the track that are known as the Degner. The alteration was confirmed by the FIA following a number of crashes last season that involved
Mark Webber, Sebastian Buemi, Jamie Alguersuari and Heikki Kovalainen.
The FIA stated that a new 25mm opposite kerb has replaced the old kerbs and the green concrete section near the exit of the first fast Degner section. Some modified outside kerbing has been featured at the Spoon Curve for the 2010 season as well including
some more artificial grass.
The 2010 season is already getting quite confusing but exciting at the same time and this has been the most difficult season for the drivers keeping everything in mind. The drivers have been driven physically more than ever and this season has been a mental
challenge for the top drivers. Just 25 points in the drivers’ standings led by Mark Webber divide the top five drivers. Fernando Alonso has moved up to the 2nd place in the drivers’ standings and he is just 11 points behind the leader after two
consecutive wins at the Italian and Singapore grand prix.
The Japanese Grand Prix is expected to be the title-swinging race this season and it is expected that things will get settled or get even more confusing after this race. Since some modifications have been made to the track, the drivers will have to go through
many difficulties to get used to the new Degner and drive at a suitable pace. Suzuka is a fast and technical track however, it is quite difficult to predict which car the track will suite more at this year’s Japanese Grand Prix.
Jenson Button believes that Japan is his second home and he is expected to be the favourite for this race. However, the rain can change everything in a blink of an eye so it will be quite interesting to see what the teams decide for this weekend’s race.
