Rain forced resultless match between Hampshire and Middlesex: Friends Life T20
A Friends Life T20 game between Hampshire and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Saturday, July 15, 2011.
The hosts had scored 116 runs for the loss of just two wickets in 13 overs when the game was stopped due to rain. They would have been disappointed with the result after a very strong start to the game.
South Africa’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Douglas-McKenzie-c79091 was the top scorer for his side, collecting 38 runs and he was still unbeaten, but the rain didn’t allow him to make a significant impression.
The conditions at The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rose-c86842 Bowl were overcast and it had already rained before the start of the match. This delayed the start and the match was reduced to 18 overs per side once the conditions got better for cricket.
This would have been pleasing for both teams and the fans, who were present at the venue to support http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789. However, there were more showers expected during the match, which was not an encouraging sign.
This was exactly what happened, as the match was stopped due to rain after the completion of 13 overs. The rain was pretty heavy this time around and the teams had to wait for quite some time for the conditions to improve.
However, to the disappointment of both teams and the fans, the conditions didn’t improve at all and the umpires had to end the match with no result.
Earlier, the Hampshire captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dominic-Cork-c1390, opted to bat first after winning the toss. He wasn’t worried about the overcast conditions, as the pitch was perfect for the batsmen.
Hampshire’s openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Clive-Adams-c65556 and McKenzie walked out in the middle with a positive intent. They attacked the opposition’s bowlers and gained momentum with a decent 38-run stand for the first wicket.
Adams played and missed at a few deliveries, as he struggled to some extent. He was dismissed after adding 16 runs to the total from 19 balls with the help of one four and a massive six.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Michael-Vince-c65940 took charge after the fall of the first wicket and put together 39 runs for the second wicket partnership.
The latter played aggressively and collected 26 runs off just 14 balls, clobbering four boundaries. He failed to make the most of the start though, and was sent back to the pavilion in the 10th over of the innings.
The fall of wickets didn’t stop the flow of runs though, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sean-Ervine-c2471 came out in an attacking mood. He smashed 34 runs off just 14 balls, hammering five fours and one towering six.
However, the match was stopped soon afterwards and McKenzie was the other unbeaten batsman, scoring 38 runs off 31 balls.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Dexter-c2091 picked up one wicket apiece in the match for Middlesex.
