Rain interrupts and stops the first One Day International match between Ireland and Pakistan
The first One-Day International between Pakistan and Ireland, scheduled to start at 10.45am GMT, at Belfast on Saturday, May 28th, has been delayed due to rain.
Heavy rain started at 10.19 am, when both the teams were getting prepared to face each other in the first game of the two-match ODI series.
However, the rain stopped at almost the time the match was supposed to start and umpires spread in the ground for the pitch inspection but unluckily rain started again after almost 45 minutes.
The ODI match was Ireland’s first appearance in an international match after International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011. Ireland displayed some wonderful games in the mega event as they earned a stunning victory over a full-member England team, by
achieving a big run-target of 328 runs.
The aggressive Irish batsman, Kevin O’ Brien, hit the first-ever fastest World Cup century steering his side to a splendid victory.
On the other hand, it would be Pakistan’s second appearance in a ODI-series after the mega event, as earlier they had faced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in the five match ODI series and won it by 3-2.
In the series, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 included their new talent which proved their skills and cemented their place in the ODI against Ireland.
However, the veterans – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604 and Younis Khan - who were rested during the Caribbean tour, have been retained in this series.
Umar played a key role, bowling during the mega event, while Younis’ performance remained anonymous.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 is missing its two main players, Niall O’Brien and left-arm spinner, George Dockrell, but they have high hopes in the series.
They are fully determined to fight against the Men in Green to lift their place up in the ODI rankings as their coach Phil Simmons told that his side is all set to win the series rather than just fighting.
Both the teams faced each other earlier in the ICC World Cup 2007, where Ireland thrashed Pakistan in the first round.
Following this series, Ireland will face http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in a single ODI on 11 July at Edinburgh.
