Rain interrupts play at the Roland Garros French Open on Thursday – Tennis News
Rain has hammered the detailed schedule of the overall Roland Garros French Open on Thursday. First of all, the semi-final clash between the Aussie number one, Samantha Stosur and the upset princess, Sara Errani, was scheduled
to start at 2.00 pm local time but it has been delayed due to rain and the play will not start until before 3.00 pm local time.
The late start to the first semi-final has pushed the second semi-final between the Russian number one, Maria Sharapova and the reigning Wimbledon Champion, Petra Kvitova, beyond the scheduled time. They will follow up the first
semi-final clash on at Court Philippe Chatrier. All the fans that bought tickets are eagerly waiting with their rain coats on to witness the encounter but it seems like they will have to wait a bit longer before the contest starts. Maybe, if the rain continues,
they will have come again on the eve of Friday.
Women’s double semi-final that was interrupted by rain on Wednesday has not started yet. Russian duo of Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova are up against the fifth seed Czechs, Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka. The match is
tied at one set apiece with the Russian making a marvellous comeback in the second set from a dismal score line of 1-4. The scores at the moment are 4-6, 7-5 for the Russians. There match will be followed by the first men’s doubles semi-final between the top
seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor, who will take on the likes of the Italian duo, Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace.
Men’s second doubles semi-final will follow the match of the top seed at Court Suzanne Lenglen and it will feature the likes of the Pakistani superstar, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, teaming up with the Dutch talented professional, Jean-Julien
Rojer, and they will take on the former world number team of American twins, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan. Qureshi has to win the French Open title to break into the Top-10 doubles players and earn a direct entry into London Olympics. It is going to be a difficult
task but not impossible.
