Rain postpones Phillies-Nationals clash to September 20 – MLB Update

The all-important third-game of the three-game series between Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, August 14 was postponed till September 20 after rain prevailed at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Roy Halladay earned a much-needed extra day’s rest because of the adjournment and will now start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, August 16. His last start came against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, August 8 which marked his 15th
win for the season. Halladay currently leads the list of most wins in the National League, sharing the spot with Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers.
The right-handed Halladay has displayed immense arm strength this season, just as he displayed it last season, leading the list of most innings pitched this season and most complete games. He won the Cy Young Award for his laurels last season and is a top
candidate for the award this year too.
Halladay has the ability to strike-out batters at will. He is nearing 2000 career strike-outs with 1877 currently to his credit and is line to complete more than 200 strike-outs this season.
Chien-Ming Wang was scheduled to start for the Nationals but will now start on Tuesday, August 16 against the Cincinnati Reds. Wang has not impressed in the season up till now and his win-loss record stands marred at 1-2. His chance to throw against one
of the best pitchers on the circuit was washed out until Sunday, August 21 when both sides are scheduled to play again.
Phillies are leading the overall standings in MLB and are clear favourites to top the National League this season. Their form has been phenomenal since the onset of this campaign and they have emerged as strong candidates to triumph at the World Series this
year. They have a 78-41 record thus far and have won ten of their previous 12 encounters.
The Nationals, however, are trailing at 57-62 for the season and have ended up splitting their previous 12 games with six wins and as many losses.
Both teams meet again for a three-game series starting Friday, August 19. It will be interesting to see how the series shapes up.
