Rain postpones the Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles’ game – MLB Update
The game scheduled to be played between Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, May 17 at Fenway Park, Boston has been postponed due to heavy rain.
The announcement to postpone the encounter came before the game was supposed to kick off. There is no certainty as to when the postponed game will be played.
Boston had defeated the Orioles in the last game by 8-7. Tuesday’s game would have certain odds for the Red Sox to overcome.
Red Sox Daisuke Matsuzaka, who has been performing consistently, was said to be on the disabled list owing to the injury in his right elbow. His absence will certainly be conspicuous and the consequential. The worry was aptly expressed by the team manager.
"It's impossible," Francona said Tuesday, when the game was postponed for rain. "If you put a time period out there, that's not fair to Dice-K. The doctors don't even know."
Importantly, Matsuzaka is the second Boston starting pitcher to fall victim to the disabled list this week. Earlier, John Lackey’s strained his right elbow resulting in his departure for 15 days. Matsuzaka had earlier failed to appear in the games against
Seattle Mariners due to tightness in his elbow.
Considering the unpredictable difficulties afflicting Boston, the team manager tried to dispel the impression that it would weaken the side as a whole. "We're going to get Lackey healthy and get him back out there as quickly as we can," Francona said. "We're
going to do the same thing with Dice-K."
In the absence of Matsuzaka, Tim Wakefield was reported to be starting the game on Tuesday. But as the rain took away the possibility of game being played, it cannot be said who will be the starter on Wednesday.
Clay Buchholz is reportedly scheduled to commence on Wednesday as Boston will take on the Detroit Tigers. The game will obviously go ahead if clouds disperse and allow the match to progress. Despite the injuries that have befallen the Red Sox, the team hopes
to make a good start on Wednesday against Detroit.
