Rain postpones the third-game between Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins – MLB Update
The third game of the three-game series between the Minnesota Twins and the Cleveland Indians was postponed due to rain at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday, August 14 and no further date has yet been announced for rearrangement of this game.
The Indians had already won the series after impressive victories in the first-two games of the series and were on a hunt for a possible clean sweep of the Twins. However, rain forced them to wait for this result.
The Indians have gained pace in the American League Central division as they are now just 2.5 games shy of leaders Detroit Tigers and their superior pitching’ staff has the ability and the required momentum to possibly overtake the leaders. However, the
Indians are pressed hard by the Chicago White Sox who are currently placed third in the division with a deficit of just 1.5 games separating them from the Indians.
It is worth mentioning here that Cleveland is the only side in the AL Central which possesses a positive run differential. All other teams, including Detroit, are in the negative range.
Manny Acta, manager of Cleveland, saw this as a good opportunity for the players to get some rest before the team heads to Chicago on Tuesday, August 16 for a three-game series against the White Sox followed by a three-game series against the Tigers in an
attempt to grab the top notch in their division.
The manager was hopeful of Jason Kipnis and Michael Brantley returning to the starting line-up before their season enters into a tough phase with games piling up.
"We still have a month and a half left, but this week's trip is important," Acta said. "The rest gives them some time and they should be ready to go. Otherwise we have some decisions to make."
The weather did not allow David Huff to improve on his 1-1 win-loss record for the season which has come at an ERA of 0.51.
The Twins, on the contrary, have slipped to 52-67 for the season and with at least nine games behind Cleveland, chances for their resurgence remain thin.
