Rain prompts postponement of World Series Game 6 – MLB World Series Update
Rain washed away Game 6 of the World Series on Wednesday, October 26. Scheduled to be played at St. Louis, the encounter will now be held on Thursday, October 27 at 8:05 p.m. where the two teams are expected to lock in a tough battle.
With Game 6 now set for Thursday, Game 7 shall be played on Friday, October 28. There are less chances of rain as the forecast suggests.
In the last six years, this was the second time when rain prompted the postponement of the game. Previously, it was the Philadelphia Phillies that were playing against the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series which delayed the game for a day.
“It was a conversation about whether you want to play in rain," Torre said about the conference call. "I think everybody pretty much was in agreement with the fact that because of all the forecasting ... we just didn't want to take a chance. We anticipate
it's going to rain. If it doesn't rain, you made the decision on what you knew.”
The new rules stipulated by Major League Baseball state that if a game in the post-season faces suspension due to rain, it will start at the same time the next day until its conclusion unlike the regular season where a game becomes official after or during
the fifth inning.
All the same, the game that was affected by this rule first was one that involved the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees. In their American League Division Series’ Game 1, the game was suspended after heavy rain.
As rain took away any prospect of play, both CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander were unfortunately out of their first starts in the ALDS, bringing in Doug Fister and Ivan Nova on the mound to pitch against the respective offence.
The reason why the game faced suspension may well have to do with the fact that it could be a Series decider. With rainy and cold conditions pervading the stadium, there are enormous expectations attached to the result of the game. Naturally, the idea is
to not let rain affect the outcome of the game in any way.
