Rain reigns in Lord’s Test between England and Pakistan
Players have spent just over one hour out in the middle two sessions into the final Test of the series between England and Pakistan at Lord’s as rain has reigned at the home of cricket today.
After a morning spent waiting for the persistent drizzle to clear and the covers to come off the ground at Lord’s, play finally got underway at 1.40pm, two hours and 40 minutes after the scheduled start time.
Sent in to bat after losing the toss, in overcast and damp conditions that clearly favoured the bowlers, the home side had http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s fielding fumbles to thank for the fact they weren’t one wicket down within three overs, as Alastair Cook gained a life when Umar Akmal put down the chance, much to the chagrin of bowler Mohammad Amir.
Amir and Pakistan then thought they had their man as umpire Billy Bowden raised his crooked finger in answer to a caught behind appeal, but Cook was quick to take advantage of the umpire Decision Review System to get the dismissal overturned.
It was another scratchy start for Cook, who did break a run of poor form with a century in the second innings at The Oval during Pakistan’s four-wicket victory, but while he survived a couple of close calls today, his captain was not so lucky.
There was no doubting the dismissal of Andrew Struass as Mohammad Asif sent down a superb delivery that nipped back to claim the inside edge on its way to stumps to send the England opener on his way for 13, just an over before bad light and then rain again halted play half way through the 13th over of the day, with England on 39-1.
The umpires finally bowed to the elements and called off play at 5.40pm.
