Rain-ruined Test series against West Indies frustrates Kumar Sangakkara
Kumar Sangakkara, the Sri Lanka captain, has said that the rain-ruined three-match Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 was the worst Test series of his cricketing career. Sangakkara said after the fifth and final day of the third Test
at Pallakele was washed out due to heavy showers.
"It's pretty frustrating and it's tough. I haven't seen rain like this in a long time. It was pretty frustrating to sit in the dressing room and watch the rain."
The first and second Tests were also finished in stalemates due to bad weather as the three-Test series was drawn 0-0. Only the First Test at Galle could complete all its scheduled five days. The drawn Test series dragged Sri Lanka
down to No. 5 from No. 3 on the ICC Test rankings.
The Lankan captain asked the cricket officials to consider the weather conditions properly before planning to organize a Test series at some venue. "It is tough these days because the weather's all topsy-turvy. It would have been nice
to see if we had alternative venues as well to see if one failed and the weather was not great and preparations were not great we could have gone somewhere else,” said Sangakkar. The 33-year-old wicketkeeper batsman also called for backup arrangements under
such chaotic weather conditions.
Despite of the tame draws in all the bad weather hampered Tests, Sri Lanka did have some positives including sparkling batting of Tharanga Paranavitana at the opening place and the spin bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajantha-c42419 Mendis and Rangana Herath.
Sangakkara hailed Rangana’s bowling saying that he had done a fantastic job in the series bowling remarkably against the West Indian left-handers.
"Rangana again proved as the most experienced bowler he can do the job whenever it was required," said the home skipper. "It's heartening to see Ajantha Mendis has come back very strongly in this Test series and Tharanga Paranavitana
keeps growing as a solid opener for us,” he added further.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 will now play five-match one-day series against Darren Sammy’s men before the tourists wrap up the tour with a solitary T20 International at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The first One Day International between the two outfits
starts in Hambanthota on December 9.
