Rain washes away the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers' Game 1 ALDS encounter – MLB Update
The uninterrupted rain on Friday, September 30 led to the suspension of Game 1 of the American League Division Series between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers. The game was suspended after rain did not stop for over one hour as the second inning of
the game was underway when rain started coming down.
Hosting the Tigers at Yankee Stadium, Game 2 is now scheduled to be played on Sunday, instead of Saturday night, if and only the weather allows it.
Since the game stood tied, the match will be played on Saturday. Game 1 will now see Doug Fister pitch for the Detroit Tigers as Justin Verlander, previously tasked with pitching in the first game, shall now make the start in Game 3 at the Detroit Tigers’
home ground.
"On the fair side, both clubs have to deal with the same issues," said Joe Torre, Major League Baseball's executive vice president of baseball operations.
There has not been any positive news about weather for Saturday. Rain is expected to hit the game once again.
The New York Yankees know how unpredictable the weather can remain. "The weather is tricky around here," Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said. "It's been hard to predict all year long. I have no complaints.”
However, much as the rain has been of a huge trouble and a highly unwelcome during such big games, there is a positive side of it for both the teams. Potentially worn-out after a long series of games, the players of both the sides get some breathing space.
The players will welcome some much needed rest prior to playing the big game.
However, Giradi dispels such an impression. He asserts his team has the resilience to play in any situation. "I think both clubs are going to have to go through the same thing. That's the bottom line."
With Giradi expressing his confidence in the team, it becomes rather more interesting to see how the New York Yankees take on the Tigers once Game 2 of this exciting series kicks off.
