Rainbow 6 Patriots is the latest entry in Tom Clancy’s long running series, release window teased
Ubisoft have finally confirmed what many were already anticipating, a new Rainbow 6 game.
Titled Rainbow 6 Patriots, the latest foray into the Rainbow 6 universe is rumoured to take the series down a completely different path as compared to its predecessor in the series, Rainbow Six: Vegas.
While the Vegas series had enough life in it for two games to come out, not all the fans were convinced by the tactical elements and slow pacing of the game.
The premise of Patriots is based around a group of modern terrorists who are said to be highly trained and have undertaken a vendetta against the American government, who they believe is corrupt and a tool for corporate America to use.
The game will also stray from the using narrative in which the storyline unfolds as players will play the game with multiple characters, including a sequence where gamers will have to hold down a trigger to prevent an explosion.
Also, the actions of the players will also affect the outcomes of each mission, so players will have to make moral and ethical decisions on a regular basis.
The creative director at Ubisoft, David Sears, was on hand to explain some of the mechanics of the upcoming game, “Terrorism has evolved, and so has Rainbow 6. In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series
love have been coupled with an exciting new narrative direction.”
He explained that they wanted to bring the game closer to home and connect with players on an emotional level rather than just be another trigger happy shooter, “This adds an unprecedented level of humanity that will make Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots
an extremely tense and immersive experience.”
To be honest, up till this point we feel as if Mr. Sears is trying to sell the game more than talk us through it. However, having said that he did go on to reveal a bit more about the game itself.
The game is set to expand on the co-operative gameplay which was such a strong point of the Vegas games and will introduce plenty of co-op and multiplayer game modes for players to enjoy.
“Players will be rewarded for working as a team and mastering the game’s new features that enhance communication and tactical execution between teammates.”
While all that sounds very fancy, it basically means that teamwork will play an important part in the gameplay, where players will be expected to plan and execute coordinated attacks instead of running in with gun blazing.
Rainbow 6 Patriots sounds promising at the moment, yet without any gameplay footage or a trailer, it is hard to comment at this point in time.
