He are hand rearing a young Rainbow Loorikeet. It came from a breeder, not the wild. It is about 6 - 8 weeks old now. He likes to lay on his back and pick at his toes, is this normal behaviour or is he a looney?

  1. nope, he is just cleaning himself   loris are known for being very active too lol

  2. Yeah they are all crazy, doing all sorts of weird stuff compared to other birds, so your lori is normal...lol

Crash(my lori) does the same thing and she 5yrs old now, she also lays in her bed on her back to sleep!

They really do have unique personalities and habits, you will be laughing till you wet yourself once it gets older...

You have to get a bird bath for it in summer as they love baths, just make sure you have your camera handy!

Good luck to you and your FLF

  3. Well  not all birds can be crazy, but some birds can be really stroppy and yeah it will depend what mood that they are in

  4. It is normal behavior, birds like to be clean... so if he picks at his toes there might be some dirt in there, so he is trying to get it out.

  5. My family used to breed loris when i was a kid. This behavior is normal. They are so beautiful and do all sorts of unique things. I would say their temperment is more active then alot of other breeds. You can try using a spray bottle with some room temperature water in it to see if he likes the bath. Maybe he will stop picking at his toes. He is probably doing this because his formula has dripped down and maybe dried on his feet and he's trying to eat it or get it off. Goodluck. :)

  6. No, there is nothing wrong, this is typical Lori behavior. Mine plays on her back all the time. Wait until she gets a little older, then she will start making all kinds of crazy noises, sling toys around, and hop all over the bottom of the cage. Lori's love to play on the bottom of the cage, that is part of the reason the cage needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. They are loud and crazy, but they are amazing little birds.
