Rainbow lorikeet question?

Afew months ago the wife was given a lorikeet as a present, trouble is it does not seem to like her. Once he hears my voice he will come sraight to me, where he sits contented on my shoulder. The girl smokes and wears perfume, could this be a problem? When she first got him, she used to handle him regularly and by all the squawking you would think he was being eaten alive. Should she have won his trust before grabbing him by the throat? I on the other hand have not handled him only to hold him when we spray him for bugs.

birds bond to certain people and not always their main owner it sounds like this bird has bonded to you you will have to teach him not to attack your wife he will always love you more but as the one he is bonded too its your job to tell him no and teach him its not ok to be nasty to your wife check out birdchannel.com

If the lorikeet is bonding to you and not the wife.....Chances are your he is a she!!!

Lori's are drawn to their opposite s*x.

Your wife should still be able to gain some trust by feeding it lots of treats, Cleaning it's cage and looking after her when you aren't home.

The most important things are your wife shouldn't raise her voice to it, only talk normally and not to discipline it.

Also your wife should share her meals with the lori, works well for trust, just don't feed it chocolate, avocado or onions.

Only you should discipline it when it is interacting with your wife.

It will take some time to re-adjust, My Lori hated my Ex with a passion but my mum has been excepted by Crash(Lori) with the above instructions.

Edit: Rainbow Lorikeets are monomorphic(males and female look the same) and the only real way too find out their s*x, are feather DNA testing or when they display certain sexual behaviour.
