I have a rainbow lorikeet for about two years and I want to get another one. Do you think that they will get along okay? What about if there in the same cage?

  1. They should be okay! Feathers go missing time to for new cages !

  2. Your best chance would be to have them sexed and gradually introduce a pair.  They shouldn't start out in the same change (not even the same room through quarantine), but should be able to end up there.  Lorikeets are highly social, but also dangerously aggressive toward intruders.

  3. I have a Blue Mountain Lorikeet whom I was considering getting a friend. I contacted a breeder and this is what she had to say

"Be aware that if your bird is a friendly hand tame pet,he/she may bond with the other cage mate and not be as friendly to people. Lories tend to bond strongly with their cage mates even if same s*x and get very jealous when you interact with the other bird. Often will bite you or the other bird in an attempt to separate the three of you."

Keep in mind I was going to put them in the same cage. Hope this helps.

  4. No, I don't think so, they might but they are protective barstards

  5. If you decide to get another lory it wouldn't be a good idea to put it directly in the cage with your current bird.  Put the new bird in a cage next to the current bird and watch.  When they begin to sit and sleep close to each other, then they probably would be ok in a large cage together.  It is good to allow them to play on a playstand together, that way if one annoys the other it can fly to the ground; birds only really hurt each other when we put them into a situation, like a cage, where they can't get away from each other.

  6. that's okay just make sure you see how they react to each other first. i would get another small cage, anyway... just in case.
