Rainfall measurement?

Let said the yearly rain fall is 1000 mm. SO, if I take 1 square meter of area, channel it to a tank (without any evaporation, no spill-over, no leaking, etc) for 1 year, I should be able to get 1 meter cube of water. Is it true?

    1m x 1 m2 = 1 meter cube of water.

  5. may be your hypothetical system be true but  simple process is they measure water in a measuring cylinder then tell about rain fall
