  1. Cattle ranching accounts for 60% of total rainforest destruction. Most deforestation is caused by land needs for cow and since brazilain beef exports has surpassed american beef exports expect the ranching % to increase.

Causes of deforestation in the Amazon

    Cattle ranches                                         60-70%

    Small-scale, subsistence agriculture           30-40%

    Large-scale, commercial agriculture               1-2%

    Logging, legal and illegal                                2-4%

Fires, mining, urbanization, road construction, dams 2-4

    =) hope this info helps!

  2. The rainforests are growing on extremely poor soil. So every time people IN GENERAL find their land isn't producing enough anymore, they burn off a little more rainforest. Unfortunately, this is a repeating cycle. Someone has to teach the poor people there how to farm that soil organically.

  3. Eating meat.

Without overgrazing there wouldn't be a need to chop down these life-sustaining stands of trees.

  4. Deforrestation is related to one or more industrial pursuits.

In order to make lumber for homes, businesses, boats, ect, the trees are cut down.  The forestry industry is big business anywhere.

The argriculture industry requires that the land be cleared of obsticles before farming can be done.  This is the main reason the tropical forest are being cleared.  this includes the cattle industry.

Population spread is not an industry in itself, but the housing industry contributes in clearing the land for towns, business, industrial sites, airports, etc.

  5. the biggest contributor to the deforestation in the amazon is Brazil's policy of using only bio fuel for all cars & trucks.

they have to clear more & more rainforest every year to grow the bio fuel crops required to keep the country running.

the U.S. doesnt have that option, we only have 800 to 900 million acres of potential farm land, if we depend on corn alcohol it would require 2 BILLION acres to grow the corn even if each vehicle were limited to only 50 gal. per month.

thats why corn ethanol is not a viable solution for us.

we will have to depend on the sunlight stored over the last 200 million years in oil & coal for the forseeable future if we expect to keep our standard of living where it is now.

  6. yepp plus some foods with palm oil for example and consuming margarine does it.
