Rainout on Wednesday does little to help World Series contesters, Managers comment
Managers from the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals got the chance to speak on the rainout Game 6 delay on Wednesday, October 26, at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Both teams are in the final stage of the World Series in Major League Baseball and
they reported no significant difference from the delay at hand. Both teams will get a chance to rest players for a day longer but that does not mean they will be gaining a foothold in the competition.
Cards manager Tony La Russa summed up the situation very well when he spoke on the rainout delay.
"We don't know how Game 6 is going to go," La Russa said. "So we're just going to play Game 6."
The Cards trail the Rangers 3 – 2 in the Series. They need two straight wins to lift the World Series. Of 18 teams that have done that before, the Cardinals have been that team on four occasions, in the past. They are renowned for their comeback strength
but will it be enough to nudge off the Rangers, who are looking for their first World Series victory after reaching the stage for the first time in 2010.
La Russa, nevertheless, believes the rain makes no necessary difference on the squads and the mentality of the team management.
"I think it's the same for both clubs," said La Russa. "I don't think it adds anything to our competitive chances or theirs."
For Texas manager Ron Washington, there could be a possible uplifting development in the form of pitching as the rain gives Derek Holland an extra day of rest. He could start Game 7, but the manager is stressing on sending in Matt Harrison, who started Game
3 for the club at the Rangers Ballpark.
"Harrison is my Game 7 pitcher," Washington said. "Harrison has been a big part of this team all year. I am not changing the things that I've been doing all year. That's why we are where we are, and that's why I'm staying with Harrison."
Holland will be pitching from the bullpen though and that gives the Rangers a sigh of relief.
