Raise Wal-Mart cashier IPH?

Question

I recently started cashiering at walmart and to stop myself from dieing of boredom I like to see how high I can get my iph (items per hour) to be. There is a little top 5 leader board where the top cashier has around a 530 iph. I am on the leader board with a 470 iph but anything less then first place isn't good enough lol. Is there anyone out there that knows any tips or tricks to raising your iph?

 I have several friends who have worked at Walmart, and even among the people who work there forever, 700s were really high IPH for the store.  When I was a cashier for one summer during college, I was offered CSM to stay strictly because my IPH was 900+

My IPH at other stores was 1200+, so I think that it may be Walmart's system

 i was a cashier back in HS and my best average was around 1200.  my highest ever was about 1800 after working the till for about 4 hours on a long lane (not express check-out).  i would hit the total key after everything.  i would have everything on the belt already scanned and bagged and the customer would still be unloading their cart.  it was the only thing i had going at work and it made it interesting.  i hated that job. lol

My IPH is usually around 900. My record being 1053. To raise it you can do a couple of things. Hit total>check after your done scanning and you are waiting for the customer to pay. Also, while you are waiting prepare the next persons stuff. Once you get good you start to move really quickly.
