Question:

Raised tattoo, never peeled.?

I got my fifth tattoo on July 11th this year. It's script on my inner wrist. My four previous tattoos all peeled and they healed perfectly. My most recent tattoo never peeled and it's raised slightly, causing parts of the script to look blurry. I took care of this tattoo just as I took care of my other ones and I of course followed my artist's instructions to the T. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or am I screwed?

  1. Sounds like he was too heavy with his needle and he made hamburger meat out of your skin. You aren't necessarily screwed but it's gonna take a lot longer to determine if you need a touch up or not and you probably will.

  2. He might have scarred you by either going too deep or sticking the needle in at an angle. I have the same thing on part of my wrist. Skin in sensitive areas like the wrist is thin and the ink will "bleed" if the artist messes up even a little.

That being said, I have both forearms tattooed and the one that was messed up has healed in a way that it's not that noticeable. Since yours is script, I would suggest letting it heal a good 6 months or so and then going somewhere else and having them try to fix it up. Your options are pretty limited. They might be able to re-do it with a smaller needle to accentuate the writing. Some artists will run a clean needle around it (a needle with no ink) to kind of scar the skin and try to lighten the ink. But it doesn't work too well, most of the time. The other thing some people do is run white ink around mistakes. I had this done on my bicep once, but the white ink doesn't stay in skin very well and in some people will turn brown over time.

So yeah, it sucks, but hopefully within a year it will look a little better. Ink takes time to settle into skin. In any case, I guess you'll find a new tattoo artist...?

  3. Screwed. Sounds like you went to a bad tattooist because he scarred you. he went to deep with the needle and the result of that is what you have now a raised tattoo. There's really nothing you can do to fix it.

  4. I would go see your artist immediately!  I'm not familiar with whether the skin around wrists is different then anywhere else, but don't take chances.  The sooner you see him/her the better!
