Raising Intelligence?

For parents of newborns or those anticipating, have you all or will you do anything *special* to increase/encourage your little one's intelligence, and what age were they?

I am reading the books and watching the videos by author Glenn Doman who pioneered the field of child brain development and is the founder of The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential. I am so excited to begin teaching my baby.

Honestly, I've always known HOW to teach my baby. Before I discovered these books, I spoke to my own mother about introducing writing to my baby at an early, 6 months she is now, age. So although this book has interesting facts, it is mostly motivation for me. I recommend them.

  1. I  did a course a parenting when my son was  a year old.  The course was based on the themes of Glenn Doman and Maria Montessori.

I started practising all the things i learnt since my son was 15 mnths old. I started with the flashcards for encyclopedia bits. By 2 years he could recognise abt 500 cards. He knew flags of 70 countries and various car models among the other general things like fruits, vege, animals, insects, identify fishes by specific names, musical instruments and so on. The only thing i dint do with him was the dot cards. And when i started that at age 3 it was too late.

Now at 4 he has IQ of a 6 yr old and is able to read small books and write. He does simple maths. He speaks in 4 languages with very good grammar. I have written various articles abt the practices i follow with my son on my website and blog

He was introduced to swimming at 7 mnths which really helped in his developement. He started music initiation lessons and 2 and now takes Piano lesson twice a week.

  2. It's nice that you're excited to teach your baby, and I wish you the best. Just make sure you leave plenty of time for play and for interaction with other little ones, which will mean so much for her eventual happiness. As she grows and you learn more about the individual person she's becoming, make sure you honor her needs, as well as your priorities for her learning.

Intelligence (of the "book-learning" kind) is so important, and yet there are many important facets of life. Without any special teaching or training, my daughter started reading at 22 months. We're tremendously proud of her gifts. And yet, she has struggled with more mundane aspects of life. When she was 10, she didn't need to be able to spell "rhinopharyngitis" as much as she needed to be able to talk to a friend. It's important to offer a balance.

  3. Another book I would recommend:

"The Absorbent Mind" by Maria Montessori

It gives a very good look at how children develop and how their minds are like sponges, absorbing information in the environment.

    It will definitely help
