Raising money to study abroad? Any help?

Hi.

I really want to study abroad. It has been like a dream of mine. However with my families financial situation, we don't have the money to at all. So I decided I'm going to raise money for it. I am going to apply for scholarships, and whatever money I still need I'm going to get myself. I'm only 15 so getting a job isn't really going to work out, since no where around here hires anyone that young. Does anyone have any ideas that could help me?

Please help me.

Thanks so much.

  1. You're 15 so I gues you're in High School.

What you mean is a high school exchange?

  2. How about collecting old cell phones & getting money for them?

I actually wrote an article on how to do this... you can read it at this site:

  3. This may not be the answer you're looking for, but are you planning on doing this soon or in college? If you wait until your second semester of college at most universities you can study abroad for the same cost as living at home, and in some cases cheaper!

I always dreamed of traveling at your age, and my family is dirt poor, so here's what I did:

I waited until my second semester at the University and I went on a study abroad program in China through my university. In China I earned extra by working part-time as a teacher. Tuition is much cheaper here, and my grant money more than covered it.

I know you want to travel now, but many of the highschool programs are expensive and if you wait a few years it could hardly cost you anything!

  4. You actually have a lot of options.  Even though you're 15, you can still work at odd jobs to earn money, such as babysitting, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, leaf raking, etc.  You could hold a car wash to earn money, and say on the signs that you're raising money to study abroad in [country name].  That way, people might be more likely to give you money if they know what you're trying to raise it for.  If you get good grades, the Rotary Club is a good option.  Rotary has a very good student exchange program, and many districts will pay your way if you can't afford the fees.  Call your local Rotary Club and ask for the student exchange coordinator's phone number.  They'll be able to tell you when you can apply, how much it costs, what scholarships they may have, etc.

Seeing as you're only 15, you still have a few years to raise money to do an exchange.  I know you probably want to go right now because you're really excited about the idea, but if you wait a couple years you could get a regular job once you turn 16 and save the money that way.

Good luck!  I'm sure you can do it.
