Do you need to flick your wirst when you touch the puck to raise your slap shot, or do you just need to keep in touch with the puck longer?

  1. You need to first off hit less ice/street and more puck/ball. And you should be turning your wrist and pointing the tip of the stick at your target on your follow through

  2. I am assuming that you mean ice hockey right?

Your wrist should not break down in a slapshot. Do not roll your wrist or flick at the puck.

Make sure you have the blade tilted slightly down (not up) and you hit the ice (not the puck) 1-3 inches behind the puck. Toes and chest should face the target. Don't practice with your feet towards the boards. Rotate your torso around your planted legs - take the stick back and around your body - not up. The closer you hit to the puck the higher it will go. This will all probably feel totally wrong and weird, but once you master it you will have an great slapshot with height and power using the proper technique.

  3. You're making initial contact with the ice, and not the puck, right?

  4. whoa two of the four comments here are completely off base.

TBL and Coach Scott have it right.  Your gonna want to first make contact with the ice right before you hit the puck.  That way you can put the flex in your stick that will give you the power behind you shot.

Like scott said if you want to raise it just make sure you blade is tilted back slightly so that you can get the velocity on your shot (kind of like the face of a golf club, how its slightly tilted)

don't listen to the other two who are saying to turn your wrists and hit more puck.  Thats like telling a baseball player to swing holding the barrel of the bat.

And the other comment about sliding you hand down the shaft and then sliding it back up when your coming down.....

Yes slide your hand down the shaft but DONT slide it back up into it's original position while coming through with the shot.

  5. i have a pretty decent outside slap shot [havent tried it out yet inside] but what i was told to do is this.

    - first start with the stick on the ground with your bottom hand a little above the middle of the shaft.

    - then raise the stick up while sliding your bottom hand towards the blade.

    - as your coming down slide your bottom hand back up to around the original starting point as your hitting the puck.

hope that helps, thats how i was tought and it works pretty well for me.
