Raja Akash beats Fawad Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Junior Snooker Championship at Green Snooker Club
After putting up an outstanding performance at the baize in the final match-up of fourth Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Junior Snooker Championship, Raja Akash of Azad Jammu and Kashmir was able to nudge his opponent, second seed Fawad Khan down convincingly. Akash,
currently studying in Peshawar, ousted Khan after a close combat at the Green Snooker Club by 3-2.
Both young snooker stars, Akaash and Khan, battled in the best-of-five frames final match in the presence of an impressive crowd that came to support their favourite cueist. The final encounter was quite tussling as both players went neck and neck during
the game to claim the title.
Khan was in superb form in the start of the match, as he began his campaign with back-to-back frame wins. He took the first frame 48-60 after pocketing a stunning half-century knock of 50 points followed by the second frame victory by the score line of 10-48
with the help of small breaks to grab a 2-0 lead.
Akash, after losing to Khan in first two frames, was under massive pressure being the favourite. However, he did not lose hope and sprang back into the game with two consecutive frame wins by 61-14, with a break of 50 points, and by 85-29, with a clearance
of 70, to drag the competition into a decider frame.
The final frame was quite tough for Akash, as he faced some resistance from his opponent. Akash did not let Khan unsettle him at all and fired some impressive breaks to clinch the final frame by 61-27 and claim the title of fourth KP Junior Snooker Championship.
Speaking to Associate Press Pakistan after winning his title, Akash said, “I was a bit relax in the first two frames won by Fawad Khan and despite my efforts I could not control my straight shorts that helped Fawad to finish early.”
The Peshawar-based cueist added, “I am always learning good things even from my opponents during the competitions and later on work on that. The day I saw Pakistan top player Muhammad Yousaf’s game I adopted the same approach of playing with cool head rather
to lose concentration.”
The chief guest, Provincial Minister for Sports, Syed Aqil Shah gave Akash the championship trophy along with prize money of Rs. 10,000, while Khana pocketed a runner-up cash prize of Rs. 5000.
