Rajasthan Royals to take BCCI to court over expulsion
The battle lines have been drawn.
Tthe Rajasthan Royals announced that they will contest the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision to expel them from the Indian Premier League in court. The Royals will file a petition
in the Bombay High Court against the BCCI ruling that expelled them from the tournament on 10 October.

Earlier, the BCCI had dismissed the Royals and Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 on the grounds that they changed the shareholding pattern without the permission of the IPL governing council. The Royals had won the inaugural
edition of the IPL under the leadership of Shane Warne.

According to the newspaper daily, the
Times of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals owners have asked the Supreme Court lawyer, Harish Salve to fight their case. Salve returned back from abroad to hold a meeting with one of the co-owners of Rajasthan Royals, Manoj Badale before taking the decision
to go to court.

Speaking to the newspaper, Badale said, "As a group of overseas investors promoting Indian cricket, I still fail to see what we have done wrong. We will now have to put our full faith in the legal system."

According to the BCCI, the original bid document was picked and signed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manoj-c1888 Badale, representing Emerging Media (IPL) Limited, a UK-based company. However, the shares were then held by the Jaipur IPL
Cricket Private Limited, who signed the final agreement with IPL. This went against the rules specified by the BCCI. There were also other rules that were flouted.

The BCCI had mandated that no change in stakes can happen in the first three years which happened twice.

However, according to a few reports, the BCCI also decided to expel the franchise because of the presence of Suresh Chellaram, who held 44 per cent of the stake in the franchise. Chellaram is the brother-in-law
of suspended IPL chief Lalit Modi. However, BCCI chief http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shashank-Manohar-c89791 said, "The decision to sack Royals has not been taken because of any individual."
