Rajasthan steady on Day-1 against Baroda
Rajasthan ended the first day of their match against Baroda at 198 for the loss of three wickets in the Ranji Trophy Super League match played at Moti Bagh Stadium in Vadodara http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
The toss was won by Baroda and they elected to bowl first on a wicket which seemed to have some moisture in it. The openers Aakash Chopra and Vineet Saxena started the innings steadily and left too many balls.
Chopra was the first man to be dismissed after he attempted a sweep shot off the bowling of Bhargav Bhatt. The ball pitched in-line of the stumps and straightened. The decision was a straight forward one for the umpire as the ball would have hit the stumps.
The first wicket for Rajasthan fell on a total of 67 runs and Chopra had contributed 34 runs in the total before getting out. His innings was over defensive and after consuming 111 balls, he would have been disappointed with himself not to convert his steady
start into a big innings.
Saxena followed Chopra and he was out just six runs after the wicket of his opening partner. It was again the 20 year old Bhatt who was involved in the wicket but this time the wicket came through a run-out.
Saxena was confused after playing the drive to the hands of Bhatt. The ball was thrown at his end and the replays showed that he was short of his crease. Like Chopra, Saxena also consumed too many balls but failed to carry on his innings. He was out for
31 off 112 balls.
Two quick wickets brought the captain of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hrishikesh-Kanitkar-c1561 and Robin Bist at the crease. Both the batsmen steadied the innings and gave a century stand to their team.
Kanitkar was out after scoring 61 runs just before the close of play. His wicket fell at a total of 190 after he tried to play a delicate cut shot. The ball took the edge of his bat and went straight to the slips cordon.
At close of play, Bist was unbeaten at 56 and he was joined by Vivek Yadav who was not-out at 4.
Bhatt and Aditya Waghmode took one wicket each for Baroda and one wicket came courtesy some good work in the field by Bhatt.
Rajasthan will be hoping that Bist continues to play like he did on the first day of play. If he goes onto make a century for his team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Baroda-c769 will be on the back-foot. On the other hand, Baroda will be looking forward to get some early wickets on day-2.
