Rajasthan v Mumbai - Shane Warne condemns Mumbai’s pitch complaint
Rajasthan Royals Skipper Shane Warne has condemned Mumbai Indian’s decision to file an official complaint about the Pitch in Jaipur after their seven-wicket defeat on 29 April, 2011 at Jaipur.
The Mumbai Indians were restricted on 94 runs after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians their second defeat of the season.
While talking to media, the Rajasthan skipper, Warne said, "I thought it was really disappointing, I have seen the Kolkata wicket and I have seen a few wickets during the competition. There have been some poor wickets but nobody complains, everyone just gets on with the conditions.”
He further explained, “I am not having a go at Sachin [Tendulkar] or anyone, but [for] Mumbai in general, to come here and get outplayed like they did, I think they are using that as an excuse. We suddenly have a pitch inspector here and I thought that was totally out of order and unnecessary."
The Indian Premier League’s pitch inspector Venkat Sundaram was present at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on 1 May, 2011, during the Rajasthan v Pune fixture because of Mumbai’s complaint. Warne claimed his presence was building pressure on them.
After losing against Rajasthan, the Mumbai Indian’s Captain, Sachin Tendulkar, claimed, "[It was a] tough pitch, different to what we played on in Mumbai. Don't want to take the credit away from Rajasthan, who bowled and fielded well. It was two-paced, the ball kept low. We lost early wickets, were not able to rotate strike. A score of 130 would have been a challenging total. We were not able to accelerate in the middle overs."
Warne elaborated, saying that the Mumbai Indians have experienced batsmen in their squad and on this track they were capable of scoring up to 130-140.
He clarified that the Twenty20 format of game is all about the contest between bat and ball, in this format you do not have a lot of choices and everyone wants to enjoy a fair contest. The best batsman is one who will score the highest and the best bowler is one who will get wickets.
Warne was pretty disappointed and said, "There's no disgrace in losing, you should not look for excuses when you get outplayed; you should just give credit to the opposition. I was very disappointed."
