Rajasthan let a chance to secure a win against Saurashtra on the final day of the four-day Group A match in this week’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy, slip out of their hands as they failed to bowl-out their opposition which was chasing a target of 306 runs needed to win at KL Saini Ground, Jaipur.
Having secured 11 runs without a loss on day-three, Saurashtra resumed their innings with SH Kotak and SP Jackson in a bid to go after the required target.
The side needed to bat without fear in order to chase this massive total, while at the same time prevent the demise of too many wickets.
However, the opening partnership, after taking the score to 73, met its end on the wicket of Jackson, who succumbed after bolstering 32 runs off 67 deliveries.
The second-wicket partnership between SH Kotak and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CA-Pujara-c1209 was a marvel, as it took the side towards 119 before the latter had his stumps shattered all over the place with 24 runs to his name.
It was then time for skipper, JN Shah, to join the party but before he could settle in he lost his partner at the other end, as Kotak was clean-bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pankaj-Singh-c80701 after smacking a brilliant knock of 54 runs off 112 deliveries. By this time, the batting side had posted 129 runs on the board.
Shah and CS Jani then managed to pile 157 runs, before the former lost his wicket to Choudhary after jabbing 34 runs.
Jani was then easily neutralized by Choudhary, as the batsman hit the showers after scoring only nine runs.
With the top-order on the benches it was imperative for the batting side to forge something potent in the middle in order to prevent an imminent collapse.
AV Vasavada and KR Makvana then rose to the occasion, as they halted the bowlers from heading towards a likely victory by staying unbeaten till the end of the day with knocks of 28 and 25 to their names, seeing their side pile 217 runs.
