Rajeev Ram vs Dustin Brown – Quarterfinal Preview: Eckental Challenger 2011
The 2011 Eckental Challenger enters the quarterfinal round in the men’s singles competition where Rajeev Ram (USA) faces Dustin Brown (Jamaica) on November 4, 2011.
Both the players would fight for the semi-final spot, as they would give in all of their effort to succeed. The 27-year old Ram has been a doubles competitor having played quarterfinals in Grand Slams. On the singles division,
he has not been successful in reaching Grand Slam quarterfinals.
He would be facing 26-year old German-Jamaican player, who ranks 146th in the world. He has won three ATP Challenger titles. At the 2009 Eckental Challenger, he was the runner-up when he faced Daniel Brands (Germany)
in the finals.
For Rajeev Ram, his first ATP title win came at the 2009 Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, when he defeated compatriot Sam Querrey in the finals.
Brown has not won any singles title and he would be looking forward to win the title in Germany. Ram, on the other hand, would also like to add a singles title win in his career.
Both players have shown a nice run at the 2011 Eckental Challenger. Ram won against Joao Sousa (Portugal), 7-5, 7-6(5) and later defeated Go Soeda (Japan), 7-5, 6-4. On the other hand, Brown won his match against Marius Copil (Romania)
in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. He later defeated Laurynas Grigelis (Lithuania) again in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
With a winning run in the tournament, both players would be willing to give their hundred percent as they play their quarterfinal. Keeping their past record in mind, both players have not played any major title match and have been
trying to make it big in the world of tennis.
The semi-final place in the tournament would be the target for both the players. As singles competitors, the two players are equally matched competitors, having the ability to give each other a tough time in the quarterfinals.
They can bring their best game, as both would be motivated to cruise into the semi finals and earn an opportunity to increase their world rankings.
Dustin Brown, however, would be more motivated than Ram, for he won both of his last two matches of the tournament in straight sets. He can contain Ram to four or five games per set and maintain a lead to win the match, for he
has been doing it in this tournament. If Ram has to win the match, he should work on his offensive game play by scoring on his service games and looking at opportunities to break Brown’s serves.
