Rajiv Ouseph beats Arif Latif en route to pre quarter-finals of 2013 Singapore Open – Badminton news
England’s prime Men’s Singles campaigner Rajiv Ouseph silenced his critics by performing exceptionally well in the opening round of Li Ning Singapore Open on June 19, 2013.
He faced Mohammad Arif Abdul Latif of Malaysia and their meeting prolonged to 44 minutes in local badminton arena of Singapore. A huge crowd assembled to support both players and they were entertained with quality badminton.
Although the British campaigner lost the opening game but he managed to recollect himself in the final stages and wrapped this showdown with 17-21, 21-9 and 21-12 figures.
On the other hand, Arif Latif prevailed in the first set but could not continue with the same momentum in the ending two games.
The Malaysian player took off in a perfect manner and piled up a mountainous total immediately in the beginning of first set. He did not give his challenger enough time to settle down and unlashed a flurry of productive strokes.
He kept on moving forward at a steady pace and finished first half of the set with a respectable margin of 11. The latter part of game was also dominated by Arif Latif as he maintained an upper hand all the way to game point situation and placed a winning
figure of 21-17.
However, the following games did not bring anything for him as they completely belonged to the British shuttler. Rajiv Ouseph attacked like a wounded tiger and knocked down the Malaysian player.
He raised his chances of success by prevailing in the establishing rallies of second set and then served the notice of his dominance even in the final stages. He maintained a convincing lead of 12 points and swept the table with 21-9 score.
The decider was also dominated by Rajiv as he played with even more precision and locked the honour in a commendable manner. This time he improvised his game plan and confounded the opposing shuttler with a perfect blend of power packed smashes and deceiving
drop net shots.
He registered an overwhelming margin of 21-12 and setup his next encounter with Kenichi Tago in pre quarter-finals of Singapore Open.
