Rajiv Ouseph beats Henri Hurskainen to win Men’s Singles crown at Finnish Open 2012
England’s top player Rajiv Ouseph proved his mettle as he won Men’s Singles crown after beating Sweden’s Henri Hurskainen in the title match of Finnish Open 2012 on Sunday, April 1, in Finland.
Ouseph, World Number 22, was the top seed in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship. He lived up to expectations after working extra hard in the final contest against Hurskainen and claimed the title.
The English shuttler consumed 54 minutes in the court to prove his supremacy over his lower ranked Swedish opponent.
On the other hand, Hurskainen played tremendous badminton in the whole encounter but failed to prove his worth in the concluding phase of deciding game and lost the match with a respectable margin.
In the opening set of this final encounter, both shuttlers showed their aggressive skills and remained toe-to-toe in the court by playing to their maximum potential.
They employed attacking shots to take a reasonable lead in the first half but no one could manage it until the one-minute break as both remained close on the board.
After the break, they continued their thrilling performance in the title match and reached into the ending phase while remaining close.
At this crucial stage, Ouseph played wonderful strokes at net and got weaker returns from his opponent and managed to win the set with a 21-18 score on the board.
In the second game, Hurskainen played well this time as he controlled the pace of rallies from the opening points and remained successful in putting pressure on his higher ranked rival.
On the other hand, Ouseph failed to maintain his upper hand in the game as his opponent was flawless. The top seed lost the second game with a big margin of 16-21.
In the deciding set, Ouseph played remarkable badminton and controlled the pace of the game from the starting rallies. He managed a wonderful gap until the interval in this set.
After the break, the top seed remained on track without dropping his speed at any stage and bagged the set with a decent margin of 21-18.
Ouseph became the champion by winning this Men’s Singles final contest with an interesting margin of 21-18, 16-21 and 21-18.
