Rajiv Ouseph claims Men’s Singles crown of 2013 Finnish Open – Badminton Update
Men’s Singles expert Rajiv Ouseph of England remained invincible in the Finnish Open and earned the right to be on the top spot of the victory stand on Sunday, April 7, 2013.
The local badminton arena of Vantaa, Finland saw him swinging his arms against Dmytro Zavadsky as this encounter lasted for 31 minutes.
The British campaigner raised his chances of success by winning the opening match point and then capitalised this advantage to register a favourable result of 21-16 and 21-12.
In first set of the match, Rajiv Ouseph launched a flurry of power packed strokes and pushed his opponent on the back foot.
He did not give his rival even a single chance to comeback and doubled the pressure by clinching many valuable points in a row.
The Ukrainian player was not prepared for such an intensive attack as he remained at the lower end in most part of the game. Dmytro Zavadsky failed to rise from the dust and finish the first half of the set with a significant deficit on the points table.
Meanwhile, the British shuttler strengthened his grip by ruling the court in few consecutive rallies. He claimed few back-to-back points immediately after the interval and doubled the trouble for his competitor.
In third quarter of the set, Rajiv Ouseph employed all of his brilliance in the game and widened the gap on the points table.
He maintained a convincing lead of five points and wrapped this segment of the showdown with 21-16 score on the board.
The following game proved a one-sided affair as Rajiv Ouseph relished full benefits of his first set win and ruled the court from very first stroke until the last one.
Though, the Ukrainian player showed some spark in the beginning but then his below par performance led him to a woeful exit.
Dmytro looked in good touch in the establishing rallies but then he got relaxed just before half time. His passive approach allowed Rajiv Ouseph to finish the first half of the set with a mountainous figure of 11.
Rajiv, who was top seeded player of this tournament, made best out of this psychological edge and locked the honour with 21-12 score.
