Rajiv Ouseph claims Men’s Singles title in the Scottish International Championships 2011
England’s Rajiv Ouseph has finally got rid of his poor performance in international events for the last few months as he has claimed the Men’s Singles title in the Scottish International Championships 2011, on Sunday, November 27, Glasgow, Denmark.
In the final match of the tournament, the World Number 33, Ouseph defeated his compatriot, Carl Baxter in a straight-set match that lasted for 33 minutes. The higher ranked Ouseph, who was also ranked at the top in the Men’s Singles draw of the championship,
proved his supremacy by winning the title match without any considerable trouble.
Ouseph has a wonderful record of winning over Baxter as he is leading the head-to-head stats with a 3-0 margin. Baxter has failed to make his mark over his higher ranked opponent in all their three meetings so far.
In the first set of the final contest, both players remained equal by playing to their maximum abilities and kept the pace at the maximum level. However, at 4-4, Ouseph started to build lead by pushing his opponent in all corners of the court and reached
at 11-7 until the break.
After the interval, the top seed continued his dominating performance and spared no opportunity for his rival in the whole set. Baxter tried to change his tactics and remained close until the score reached in the concluding phase. However, Ouseph played
superb badminton in the end and won the set with a margin of 21-18.
In the second set, it was a smooth ride for Ouseph as he found no resistance from Baxter in the opening half of the game. His impressive strokes on the side lines of the court and his spinning net play spared no chance for Baxter to dominate the rallies.
Until the break, Ouseph was miles ahead of his challenger at 11-2.
After the break, Ouseph played composed game and showed no sign of urgency as he had a wonderful lead. Baxter gave up fighting in the game as his opponent was moving far ahead. Ouseph won the second set with a clear margin of 21-10. The overall score of
this final contest was 21-18 and 21-10.
