Rajiv Shukla urges Indian government to review Sports Bill – Cricket News Update
The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) vice-president, Rajiv Shukla, has beseeched the Sports Ministry to review the controversial Sports Transparency Bill before its final implementation, as the board high-ups have some grave reservations about
it.
According to Shukla, the BCCI is a transparent body which is fair and square in its dealings; therefore, it does not need any sort of new law. He has revealed that the board is always open before the public and media, both in terms of accountability and
accounts.
The Sports Bill, which was passed by the Indian Parliament a few weeks back, has been rejected by the BCCI officials who term it to be an attempt to establish political hegemony on the free functioning of the board.
The Bill has proposed reduction in job tenures of the board administrators and implementation of Right to Information (RTI) act on all cricket federations. The major purpose of the new ruling is to ensure more transparency and accountability in the national
cricketing ranks.
Talking to the media today, Shukla said, “As far as accountability is concerned, the BCCI has always followed and implemented it in its dealings and work. As far as accounts are concerned, the BCCI always discloses them in the general meetings of the board.
The BCCI also duly responds to all queries that the parliament poses before it from time to time.”
He further told, “The BCCI urges the Sports Ministry to address the concerns raised by the members. We do not want any clash of opinions. We have already implemented many provisions prescribed in the Bill. The Cabinet will take the final decision on the
matter.”
Political interference in cricket governing bodies has become a burning question across the globe. In order to prevent this menace, International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hong-Kong-c2919, passed a decree that threatened to cancel
the membership of the board which allowed any type of over and covert political meddling in its operations.
However, the issue is still unresolved in some cricketing nations like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. The three Asian giants have been confronting with this problem since long.
