Rajon Rondo believes there are five championship contending teams next season – NBA News
The upcoming NBA season is going to be an interesting and exciting one, with many teams in contention for the top three spots in each conference. The Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder are there right at the top, but a series
of roster improvements and player additions in other teams have set up an exciting race for the playoff spots.
The Los Angeles Lakers have added their names to the list of favourites for next season with the trades for Steve Nash and Dwight Howard. With the level of competition as high as ever before, Rajon Rondo thinks that there are five
championship contenders in the NBA at this moment, and the Boston Celtics are one of them.
Rondo was talking to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports and talked about winning another championship, and how he felt that the Celtics had all the ingredients to do it next year.
“We won a championship and that’s great, but I don’t want to settle. I have a lot of NBA time left on my clock and I got the talent around me. Everyone can’t say they can compete for a championship each year. With the talent around
me now with the Celtics, it’s time to obtain that goal. There are only five teams right now that can say they can compete for a title realistically. And we’re one of them,” remarked Rondo.
The Celtics added Courtney Lee and Jason Terry to the roster in the offseason after parting ways with Ray Allen. In addition, they have Jeff Green and Avery Bradley to look up to next season, both rising stars in the Celtics roster.
Rondo feels that all the ingredients are in place for another title push, maybe the last one before Kevin Garnett hangs his boots.
Rondo took his teammates out to Los Angeles where they trained for a week and spent time with the new additions to develop a spirit of team work.
“I wanted J.T. to play with Kevin. I wanted Courtney to see how Paul likes to play. I wanted Paul and Jeff Green to go at each other. I wanted to play with those guys,” said Rondo.
The Celtics host to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals last season. After adding to the roster depth and strengthening the back court, they are looking to overcome the Heat this time around.
