Rajon Rondo feels he is the best point guard in the NBA – NBA News
Rajon Rondo is in France at the moment, taking part in the Nike World Basketball festival. While there, Rondo spoke with News Basket Beafrica, and had some interesting things to say about the position he plays in and his standing
in the NBA today.
When asked where he thought he stood today in the NBA in terms of his position, the confident Celtics point guard said:
“Like I said before, I have matured a lot and my game has also. I think I am one of the best playmakers in the league. I think I’m the best point guard in the league.”
Rondo’s statement is sure to ignite a heated discussion as to whether he really is the best point guard in the league today. The discussion draws more attention since the league is currently dominated by point guards, with exceptional
players to fill all three tiers, if one ever gets down to jotting a list.
But the toughest competition is certainly in the top tier of point guards, with Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Tony Parker, Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams all competitors to Rondo for the coveted top spot in the point guard category.
Rondo is an exceptional player who has grown to become the leader of the Celtics team. He is a great play maker, although his jump shot could use some help. However, with players like Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul
playing the best basketball of their career, it is hard to give Rondo bragging rights for best point guard in the league.
But if you are guy by the name of Doc Rivers, you would want Rondo to think he is the best, as that is the only way one can succeed in a league with so much competition.
Rondo was also asked if he thought he was the leader of the Celtics team and said:
“I think so. My position as the point guard allows me to be a leader. Doc and I have worked together for six years now. I know what he wants, when he wants it. It’s up to me to relay that message on the court. Doc trusts me a lot,
sometimes I know what he wants without him asking.”
His claim will be tested next season when he tries to get the Boston Celtics back into championship contention, facing fierce competition from the Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls and now Brooklyn Nets in the Eastern
Conference.
